What's UP

UP (n.): short for Urban Picnic; recycled cardboard box filled with an all-in-one lunch, including salad, dessert, and recyclable utensils.  The best part?  Contents are made fresh daily, low-carb, and locally sourced.  The bad part?  In London and not NY.

Shown: Italian box, also in French, Indian, Turkish, American, Moroccan, Thai, Feel Good, and Spanish.

Hello, high school...

Elle's feature on HSM3 has won me over. How could I not go see it now?

October snow in NJ.  I dig it.

TV may or may not rule my life

It might seem like I watch a lot of TV, but don't let me fool you.  I only watch the important shows.  With that being said, I spied these and would really love them to be mine.

Jonathan Adler Prozac Jars, Top Design; Susan Daniels Ribbon Headband, Gossip Girl

    The price of progress

First and foremost, although the PR hype has calmed down for a couple weeks now, I think about the finale once in a while...okay, all the time. I miss it. Gosh, the anticipation, the scandal (mostly just Kenley bitching or ripping off designs), and the talent itself.

I took a quick peek at BravoTV.com to recap the good times and stumbled upon the auction site...JACKPOT. Bad news, all the auctions were over, but the results were very interesting. Obviously, the most expensive pieces were those from the finale show, respectively, according to how each finished.

But, I was so surprised to see that Kenley's pieces weren't being bid higher considering she was solid talent on the show...and that middle dress was hand-painted silk! Even her first dress was eye candy, as opposed to Leanne's apron-like i-don't-even-know-what. Talk about stepping it up.

Would you pay the big bucks for a Project Runway dress? For real though, I think Kenley's stuff was a steal.

By the way, you can take Tim home with you, for old times sake:

    Yeah, it's a bobblehead.

    Vintage Lambretta scooters

How fabulous would it be to speed around on a vintage scooter? I want.

P.S. Both are made by Lambretta, an Italian company whose roots began in the steel tubing industry. 1931 showed a huge need for reliable, affordable transportation. That's weird, so does 2008.

    Hot diggity dog, it's Friday!

    {Halloween 2007: The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Runner-up}

I was a hot dog for Halloween (JB was Kobayashi). I need a good idea for this year. Make it happen. In the meantime, I leave you with this week's goodie bag:
    • The perfect weather for some hot cocoa topped with these pillows of heaven.
    • There's a 21,000 person waiting list for vibrating _______. Big surprise.
    • Rachel Zoe is probably the one who bought this.
    • Coffee bags CAN be cute.
    • Baking these for Election Day.
    • Dreaming of summer.
    • Moose antlers over a bed/a bright green furnace.
    • Need some calendars?
    • How does he find these wonderful people?!
    • Some really pretty blogs to look at: here, there, and everywhere.
P.S. If you don't know what I'm talking about, re: Hot Dog Eating Contest, here it is:

    Prettyyyyy foul. I love it.

    HAPPY FRIDAY!

    Halloween treats via Epicurious

I've got my eyes on the Pumpkin Seed Brittle.  I usually only toast the seeds and throw a crap-load of salt on them, but this looks like a classier alternative.  Weekend project!

What are your favorite Halloween treats?

    Frugality: Red plaid scarf

Plaid is cold-weather wear.  I'm excited to get some plaid PJ's, some plaid sweaters...or this snazzy plaid scarf.  Yet, browsing on A.P.C.'s site is heartbreaking with everything in euros, which means it's horrendous in dollars.  So, you can understand my initial disappointment when I found this red plaid scarf.  Luckily and as always, F21 saves the day! (A.P.C. on left, Forever 21 on right)

    Hmm, 80 euros (over $100) or $6.80?
P.S. If you do plan on buying this puppy, hurry!  You know F21 sells out in milli-seconds.
P.P.S. Check out this girl's scarf.  It's a teal version!
    Until next time!

    Fireplaces for fun

Fireplaces, whether for warmth or decoration, give a home a cozy feeling that is hard-achieved any other way. The many uses are shown above. Why buy a bookshelf? A dead fireplace protects and serves. Grab a blanket, nestle up, and choose your favorite.

"Eat food, not too much, mostly plants"

The wise words of Michael Pollan, via Miss Jane. Not too bad of a quote to have laying around in the kitchen, strategically placed near the cookie jar and drink mixes.

p.s. if for some reason you did not read "In Defense of Food", I highly, highly recommend it.

McCain Talk + The Great Schlep

The good ol' John McCain talk (with special appearances by some of our favorite g.g. stars) + Sarah Silverman being her appropriate self.

First frost: 9 things I need to get ASAP

It's official. (a) I'm back from a much needed break and (b) I walked outside this morning and actually had to "warm up the car", immediately followed by demolishing my house trying to find mittens of some sort. Now that my lips are chapped from the below freezing weather conditions, I thought of some other things I need to dig out of the wood-works for this new development:

    • Vermont Snuggler, Etsy: Priced at over $100, I'm glad I know how to knit and crochet to maybe attempt to make one similar.
    • Dixon Suede Over Knee Boot, Top Shop: As Rachel Zoe would proudly scream, "I die." Throw some waterproofing spray on these babies and call it a party.
    • Blistex DCT, Amazon or any drug store: My life line.
    • Cable-knit Sweater Cape, Old Navy: A little something to throw over a long-sleeve or dress to block the fall breeze. Finish with a scarf, don't you think?
    • Slouchy Cabbie, Free People: Newsie-style with a fem twist. Pairing with something ultra-girly will make this stand out even more.
    • Herdwick Sheepskin Rug, Toast: I would love to have this be the first thing I step onto in the morning. The epidemy of cozy.
    • Long Fair Isle Socks, Toast: I don't know about you, but I HATE having cold feet. I have to sleep with socks on...looks like must-have.
    • Plaid Trapper Hat, Forever 21: It's become apparent that hats are a dear friend to me. This hunter hat is just precious.
    • L'Occitane Lavender Hand Cream, Sephora: My hands get disgusting in the cold. I'm talking cracked, bloody, and ashy. Thankfully, I was told to try this hand cream and it works wonders (and saves me the explanation).
    What are your cold-weather necessities?

    Bizzy

I'm going to be busy the next few days doing some much needed errands/vegging/sleeping so I may not be on the posting front.  Check back very, very soon though.  I'm all talk.

IT'S THE WEEKEND! Go nuts. Get crazy. Report back.

I leave you with some of my favorite posts this week:

    - Crazy beautiful fabrics and colors.
    - Emily's picks are absolutely wonderful!
    - "D.I.E." and "Bananas" ring tones.
    - We all need this.

    Until next time!

    A round of random

Kenley's design: see for yourself if she did bite off Alexander McQueen.

Wrapping paper by Julia Rothman for hello! lucky. I'm drooling. Love, love, love these dreamy prints. Not too bold, and just the right touch of victorian elegance. I would love ALL my future gifts wrapped in this, please.

p.s. check out this paper in action!

V is for Valerie. Find more at two sarahs.

Get out of the kitchen, bitch. Here.

    The Isetta

I'm bringing back the BMW Isetta. Don't you just want to stick it in your pocket!? So tiny, just enough room for two. I always wondered what car Steve Urkel drove around in. Finally, spotted it and then some (my favorite is the very last one!):

A very appropriate, cheerful morning post. Have a great day! Stay tuned.
