G is for GIVEAWAY! Kahina-Giving Beauty...

In the age of crazy, regulated TSA guidelines (very grateful!), it's almost commonplace to make it onto the plane with a much lighter carry-on. In Katharine L'Heureux's case, her 2007 trip to Morocco began with a checkpoint confiscation of her coveted luxury face cream. But, as fate would have it, she was surrounded by good company upon her arrival in Marrakech. Her guide walked her to an apothecary, where she encountered Morocco's native argan oil...a meet cute that changed her life, and the lives of Berber women, forever.

Her skin care line,
Kahina-Giving Beauty, focuses on the notion of women helping other women with their regional, natural beauty rituals. She gives back 25% of her profits to the Moroccan women who work in her co-op! The products are made of sustainable, natural ingredients that work...I've even heard a friend comment that "one treatment feels like you just got a facial". Her main ingredient? Argan oil, of course.

Over the weekend, I had the chance to chat with Katharine L'Heureux, founder of
Kahina-Giving Beauty. All-inspiring and...she likes the Beatles!

Your idea of perfect bliss? A hot bath / Greatest fear? Global warming and that it won’t stop raining / Your most prize possession? My volumetric flask / Song describing your current mood. “Fixing a Hole” by the Beatles – it won’t stop raining / Words or phrases you most overuse? “It's my Destiny” / Which talent would you most like to have? Speaking Berber and Arabic / Where would you most like to live? Fes, Morocco / My favorite snack food is... raw almonds / If you could be anyone, real or fiction, who would you be? Michelle Obama / Your motto? I believe in Destiny / On a plane, sleep or get some work done? Both
VR: I love the concept of women helping women. In what ways does this philosophy help women beyond Morocco?

KL: The mere concept of “women helping women” raises awareness of women’s issues around the world. The more that people know about the struggles of underprivileged women, the more we can make a real change.
VR: Volunteering is something I've done in the past and really want to get back into. How can women give back? Are there opportunities to help the Berber women face-to-face?
KL: There are so many organizations that can provide direction for people interested in volunteering, depending on their schedules, their locations and their interests. And if a person doesn’t have the time, it is easy to donate money to many causes online. If it is helping women there is the Global Fund for Women for Women International which help women in need around the world. There are also great sites like Nest which provide micro-loans to women in third world countries, often in exchange for goods which are for sale on the website.
Big, big thank you to Katharine for working with me on this! She's a gem! For more on her story, visit Kahina Giving Beauty or check out the behind-the-scenes on her blog. I'm sure we'll be seeing more great things from her in the near future! xo

I have never had a facial but it's on my list of things to do! Right now, my ritual is using L'Occitane's Almonde and Apple Skincare products. Can't live without them... and I am so excited about these goodies!

Don't use moisturize daily! Do it only once a week!!! A tip I learned from the beautiful Scarlett Johansson

This is a FABULOUS and fun giveaway! Love the mini interview too!! I have so many rituals and secrets...to pick one?!

OK- in the summer months when I let my hair dry naturally, I use a LOT of conditioner, {on the pony tail part of the hair} let it sit in my hair for a few mins and then turn the shower to c-c-c-c-old and rinse it out 2/3 of the way. The cold shocks the hair follicles {much like cold water shocks broccoli and stops it from cooking} and seals the cuticle with the good stuff from the conditioner. There...now you know one of my secrets...{I give away the rest on my blog anwyay!}

sorry almost forgot- my fav beauty trick, isn't a trick at all. I like my hair messy. I wash it, use a large tooth comb, spray in some bumble and bumble surf spray as it dries and I look like I've been beaching- even if It's in the winter, lol

i can't without my sunscreen. Sure, i'm pale year-round, but I'll look great in my 50's!

my favorite beauty ritual now is using the clarisonic to wash my face day and night - it doesn't even matter what face wash i use - this brilliant tool gets my face SO clean AND makes it feel as smooth as a baby's bottom!

One of the things I noticed the most was how much healthier my hair got when I straightened it less...and let it air dry pretty much everyday.

Right now I am all about the Clarisonic skincare brush. I used it every day, and it's doing wonders. I also like to exfoliate my lips once a week with vaseline and brown sugar. Also, I moisturize several times a day. My mom swear by it. She's 50 years old and looks 40, all because she's been moisturizing her face and skin every day. It shows!

Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway! :)

this is such a great giveaway. sadly i don't use any products on my skin because i haven't found one that i'm happy with.

although one beauty ritual is taking a break from mascara and putting vaseline on my eyelashes. it leaves them silky smooth!

What a fun idea for a giveaway! Here's my beauty go-to product: Vaseline! It really is underrated but I personally happen to adore it. I use it to make my eyebrows look more polished, moisturize my lips and any other dry patches of skin, as colorless mascara when I'm running out of the real thing, and I mix some with a powder blush to create an instant cream blush! Ah, the list goes on :)

oh, what a fab giveaway!!!

um, a beauty tip. hmmmmmm. i have heard repeatedly that a little bit of honey on a blemish will clear it up. i must try that tonight, as my face is going bonkers lately with stress!

Great interview!

My beauty secret is never tanning my face (hat and spf 50!). Oh and beauty product is cinnamon exfoliater from burts bees.

my beauty ritual is a weekly natural homemade oatmeal face mask and mayo hair conditioner.

I live by Vaseline for my lips and baby powder for my hairline. Lotion with spf base and a keep out of the sun attitude.

Renata said...

I have curly hair. I wet it daily, but only apply conditioner to the ends, then when rinsing finish with a blast of cold water for shine. This keeps the crown from going flat & the ends looking healthy.

When I can carve out the time, I mix up a big batch of neutral henna, honey, aloe vera gel and very strong tea. I plaster it on my hair and cover it with a plastic cap, leaving it on my hair, heating it up once in a while under a dryer hood. It gives my hair shine and body.

My favorite beauty secret is to wet an eyeliner brush and dip it in my favorite powder eye shadow to use as a liner.

I also swear by Aquaphor on my lips at night.

what a great interview!! my beauty secret it to always moisturize with kiehls daily moisturizer and i use liquid eyeliner on my lids with no eyeshadow and wear fiberwig mascara which really makes your lashes look long and beautiful. I pair it with a nude lip balm to really make your eyes pop!! When i get home from a long day at work I take my makeup off with nuetrogena extra gentle eye makeup remover to make you feel refreshed and smell yummy!

Hiya, people of the world!
Beauty secret...ummm...
Vaseline is good at removing lipstick. I put baby lotion on my cheeks and it makes them soft. And if you're using sunscreen, sometimes if the SPF is really high it will block vitamin D from getting into your skin. Don't go outside with no sunscreen, though, or you WILL burn!

i am addicted to baby oil. i use it for everything, to shave, as in shower moisturizer, everyday lotion.

Amazing giveaway! I'm addicted to Oil of Olay moisturizer...my mom and grandma both use it religiously, so it runs in the family!

My beauty routine is pretty standard. I gave up shaving cream years ago tho, and generally use conditioner--works just as well and leaves my legs smoother.
