G is for GIVEAWAY!

Ahhh, who doesn't love a good giveaway? And let me tell you...THIS is a good giveaway. The lovely folks at Sourcebooks hooked me up with this fabulous read:

City Chic: The Modern Girl's Guide to Living Large on Less

I just started reading yesterday and can't get my paws off of it. My favorite chapters so far: "free finds you can pick up on the street" and "drink your way into a savings stupor". Of course, I couldn't leave you guys coming out of this deal empty-handed! They sent an extra copy especially for one of being red's wonderful readers!

All you need to do to enter this lovely contest is leave a comment telling me your favorite trick(s) to saving some dough without compromising your style. I'll be choosing the winner on Tuesday! Best of luck and lots of love!

P.S. Throughout the next couple of days, I'll be posting my own money saving tips and favorite snippets from the book. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the giveaway love. I love jewelry and accessories so to stay chic while on a budget, I have been making my own jewelry and vamping up my accessories w/ studs and chains.

Stay chic,

Gorgeous giveaway
Whenever I see something fabulous that i must by, I simply find an item in my closet that hasn't been worn for a very long time and sell it.
Therefor making more space in my closet and money in my pocket for more purchases.

Fun!

Accessorization is my go-to for cheap-as-free snazzifying. Either mixing up an outfit with belts, scarves, and jewelry I already have, or thrifting a new accessory to add spice to my wardrobe.

so fun!

my favorite way to save is to host a clothing swap. i have such stylish friends that we all wind up with new favorites. everybody brings a stack of clothes and a bottle of wine, and we're set for hours!

Hi, love! <3 your blog. I tend to take photos of "expensive" accessories I like at stores that are easily DIY - such as the new "feather/mixed media" headbands or cute bobby pins I saw in a boutique that were adorned with vintage buttons. My hot glue gun is often times my best friend!

Clothing swaps are always great!

I also like to make or customize clothes that I might be tired of wearing as they are.

Another good tip for avid movie-goers is to see if your neighborhood theater has weeknight specials. We're going to see a film tonight and our total for two will end up being less then the normal price for one weekend ticket! We make our own popcorn and get candy from the gas station on our way, too!

I hope I win this very cool book!

I bought this book for my friend when she moved to NY but, stupidly, didn't get a copy for myself! These days, I totally need it. Here's an odd money-saving tip I included in an article I wrote a while back... Instead of buying coffee on the way to work every morning, try eating an apple. I know, it's strange. But apples are CHEAP and nutritionists say the sugars in the fruit are a better wake-up call than caffeine.

Love your blog! Thanks for coming over and visiting Kosmopolight :) I hope you'll come back soon!

I went to the bookstore today to by this book and they didn't have it :( So lucky I found this contest!

Well I am the queen of saving money I love the term Ressionista!
Before I go shopping I look online for discount codes and coupons I also signed up for Shopittome.com They email you brands you like and they let you know when that item has gone on sale in your size and in your area. Its like a personal Shopper! I also Love Thirthing I will go to Goodwill before I go to the mall anyday the clothes are sold for a less price, usually a piece no one else will have, and sometimes made with better quailty than the things that are sold today!

Also I bring my lunch instead of buying food everyday and I take the train to work instead of driving.

holy smokes, everyone, your comments are off the shizzzz. i didn't know i had such innovative and money saving readers!

1. LOVING the clothing swap ideas a lot of you have mentioned. that's definitely something i'll have to set up with my friends.

2. handmaking jewelry? another good one. i also love making my own belts and head scarves...saving money day by day.

3. bringing your own lunch is definitely key! i've also been doing that and have been able to save about $70 a week...sick right?

keep 'em coming!! big x.

Today I would give your blog a high five, especially because I just learned the fantastic name "Recessionista". That is the best!

1. From my numerous make up artist friends...instead of buying pricey department store brands for trendy eye shadow colors you might wear once, buy cheap brands! At my local Targ, we have NYC and the standard Covergirl, etc...so it's easy to play with purple, blue, or green shadow for a few bucks.

2. If you have a cosmetology school nearby, they should have times when they offer drastically reduced services to the public. I have a Paul Mitchell school 10 minutes away. Of course...a student is doing the work, but they are supervised. Good for a trim, maybe not for a crazy change!

3. When getting a manicure (OR when painting your nails yourself - more savings!) use light, pale colors, so chips don't show and the manicure lasts longer.

4. Other things I'm doing are saving all my change in a jar and then cashing it out once every few weeks. I use that money (usually it's 20 bucks or so! crazzzy) for a 'treat', be it a few glasses of wine with a friend, a manicure and a cupcake, etc.

5. Drink more water, less of everything else! My office supplies free Sparkletts. So instead of always buying coffee, soda, etc, I have water all day long. Same goes for going out...unless it's one of thoooose nights! Ha!

Recessionista does not equal boring.

I love this. I have been stretching my dollar more and more by eating at home.
Stretching out last years fashion, but I stick with classic and neutral pieces that will last forever.

The library and Target are my best friends.

don't order drinks at restaurants...unless its happy hours :) drinks rack up the bill so much! you can spend that money on cute new clothes.

i research everything before i buy it - i look for online coupons and promotions, make diy knock-offs if it is an option and go to flea markets and the library.

a couple of things that I do is: if I see something I really want (need) I try to walk away and give myself about 24 hours if possible. Then I know if I'm still thinking about it later, it's not just an impulse buy and something I'll really love - this TOTALLY cut down my spending... also when buying clothes I make sure what I purchase will go with at least three other things in my closet.

Love your blog!!!
